Dr Julia Lay works as a Clinical Psychologist in the NHS with children and young people and their families. She has a keen interest professionally and personally in mindfulness, ecotherapy and spirituality. Julia has a strong commitment to her own personal growth which has been supported by regular practice of yoga, meditation and walks in nature over the last ten years, as well as various therapies, including psychoanalytic psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, CBT, craniosacral therapy and acupuncture. Her greatest inspirations are Jon Kabat-Zinn, Eckhart Tolle and ALisa Starkweather.
“Working as a Clinical Psychologist is challenging and rewarding. Giving people a space to be truly heard and working with them to come to a psychological understanding of the issues in their life or family and ways to move forward can be very powerful. However, there is a facade implicit in playing the role of ‘psychologist’ and there is a deeper essence and power beneath the psychology of any individual. In my ecotherapy work, I draw on the deeply personal, on my experience of that deeper essence, as well as on my professional training and experience. This allows for an authentic and transformative experience for all involved.”
